The information contained latest data released by the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) on the telecoms regulator’s monthly subscriber/operators website revealed by NCC – Nigeria Communications Commission, says that MTN Nigeria had 52.3 million subscribers as of December 31, 2017, with 42.1 percent.
MTN Nigeria still remains the Africa’s largest telecommunications as it has bounce back to profitability with $278.2 million net income from last year 2017.
The company added 2.5 million new subscribers between June and December 2017 in Nigeria and recorded a total of 217.2 million globally at the end of the financial year.
MTN Nigeria was fined $5.1 billion by NCC for failing to disconnect improperly registered SIM cards.
This action greatly affected MTN Nigeria company’s finances in 2015 to 2016. However, the financial result has shown that MTN has bounce back to profitability and has addressed the situation.
It added that the company’s management had already initiated its corporate governance rating scoring with the NSE with a view to listing on the NSE’s Premium Board.
