Los Blancos survived a late rally from the hosts, with Keylor Navas in fine form, to hold on for all three points at Balaidos on Saturday and remain unbeaten in La Liga.
Cristiano Ronaldo, Danilo and Marcelo all scored as Real Madrid beat Celta Vigo 3-1 to move three points clear at the top of La Liga.
Both sides came into Saturday’s game unbeaten in the league this season, but only Rafael Benitez’s men emerged with that record still intact.
First half goals from Ronaldo and Danilos put Madrid in a commanding position, but a Nolito strike set up a tense finale after his team-mate Gustavo Cabral had been sent off.
However, Marcelo ensured the points would head back to the Spanish capital with a stoppage time goal.
